Chico Hot Springsの往復路でみた山々の雪景色と近隣の風景です。
These are photos taken on the way to Chico Hot Springs.

ここモンタナ州は鉱山（石炭、金、銀、他金属）が沢山あるのですが、それと同時に油田もあちらこちらに見られます。下の写真は、隣街にある原油精製所であります。ビリングス市内にも原油精製所がありますが、こちらの方が大きいかも。この施設に近付くと不快な臭いが漂っていきます。十数年まえは原油の値下がりで、随分とこの地方も打撃を受けた様ですが、近年の原油高騰で経済も立ち直ったようです。
There are many minesites in Montana (coal, gold, silver, and other metals). At the same time, there are many oil fields. The following picture is an oil refinery in the town next to Billings. There are two oil refineries in Billings but this one might be a larger one. When we came close to this facility, you can smell the bad odor. About ten years ago, the economy was depressed locally because of the low price of oil. However, recently the economy locally is better because of the high oil price.




またこの辺りでよく見るのがこれです。牛の放牧。どうやらアンガス牛のようですが、風の方向が悪いと牛のうんちの臭いが漂ってきます。
Also, we often see this scenery in the local area - cow paddocks. They look like Angus cows. When the direction of the wind is bad, you can smell the cow patties.



ビリングスを出て約一時間、クレイジーマウンテンが姿を現します。なかなかの迫力です。
After one hour driving from Billings west on I-90, you can see the Crazy Mountains. It is really gorgeous.



もう数十分走ると豪快なロッキーが見えてきました。やっぱりロッキーは雪景色の方がきれい。
After another half hour of driving, we can see the Absorakee Mountain Range. We think the Rocky Mountains are more beautiful in winter than in summer.




これが目的地のChico Hot Springs.
本当に四方を山々に囲まれていました。

Chico Hot Springs

先週一週間はギャビンの大学も春休みで、我々二人は一泊温泉旅行に出かけました。その名もChico Hot Springs、イエローストーン国立公園までは約40マイルの所にあり、標高５０００ft以上あるparadise valley　の中に小さなビレッジのようになっています。。４月までの平日は一泊２食付きのパッケージプランがあり、温泉と同時に美味しい食事も楽しむことが出来ます。宿泊施設は、本館、別館のほか小さなロッジなどから選ぶ事が出来ますが、私たちは築１００年以上の本館に泊まりました。この本館は温泉プールに直接つながっており、水着で行き来できるので便利でした。ただ、１００年以上も前に建てられたものなので、ホテルの部屋は近代的なホテルに比べるととても狭く、電話もテレビもありません。雑音と言えば廊下を歩く人たちの声くらいで、いつもの生活とは別世界のようです。部屋の窓からは雪景色の山々を見る事が出来ます。

Gavin's college had Spring Break last week, and we went to Chico Hot Springs which is located in the Paradise valley, 40 miles from Yellowstone National Park. The elevation is about 5000 feet. It looks like a small village. During the winter until April, they have a Winter Getaway package, including dinner and breakfast. We can choose the accommodation from the Main Lodge, additional lodge, and small cabins. We stayed in the main lodge, which is more than 100 years old. The Main Lodge is directly connected to the hot springs pool, so we can go to the hot springs in our swimsuits. The room we stayed in was so small compared to modern hotels, even we didn't have a TV or telephone. The noises we could hear were people talking in the hallway. That is totally different from our daily life. Also we could see wintery mountains from our windows.

部屋の中の家具は全てアンティーク。飾ってある写真も100年位前にとったものだろうと思われる。
The furniture in the room is antique. Even the picture hangings on the wall looks like 100 years old.

念願だった温泉、でもプールなので水着は着用。
雪の降る中まるで、日本の露天風呂のように気持ち良かった。

When snowing, the hot spring is so comfortable, like a Japanese Onsen.

前菜は生ガキ、でもあまりにもおなかが空いていて写真を取る前に全部食べてしまった。
Delicious dinner.
We ordered raw oysters for the appetizer but we forgot to take a picture before eating because we were so hungry.
