今日はアメリカ国内が大統領選挙の行方を見る事のできる前選挙で沸き上がっています。私たちは外国人なので選挙に参加する事が出来ませんが、今年の選挙戦は非常に興味津々。話題の多い候補者が多いのと、とても激戦が予測される事。ここモンタナはユタ州に近いせいか、Republican　はモルモン教の候補者が優勢の模様。何しろ選挙権がないのでなにも言えない。思い起こすと、選挙権があったにも関わらず、日本で選挙に行ったのは、たったの一回きりだった。もったいない事をしたと思う。現在、Green card　の申請準備中ですが、たとえGreen card　を得たとしても選挙権はない訳で、選挙権があると言う事はやっぱり凄い事なんだと今さらながら思う訳です。政治にはあまり興味がなかったが、選挙権というのは私たちが直接政治に参加できる唯一の権利だった。

Today we have Super Tuesday, part of the presidential elections, with primaries in about 24 states. Although we are foreign people who cannot vote, this election is very interesting to us because there are many unique candidates and the race is heating up. One Mormon candidate is very dominant in Montana, probably because we are close to Utah state. We prefer other candidates but since we do not have the right to vote, then we don't have a say. We both have had only one time of voting in our countries, even though we had more opportunity to vote. We think we wasted our opportunities. Right now we are preparing to apply for the Green Card. Even if we have the Green Card, we would not have the right to vote in the US. For this reason, having the right to vote is a great privilege and is the only way to participate in politics for us.

大学の心理学のクラスで教授が人間のIQの年齢による変化を講義中、標準IQを１００とすると、政治家のIQは多分７０位だろうと言っていたのを覚えている。これには授業を受けていた学生殆どがうなづいていたが、何処の政治家もあまり賢くは見えないらしい。そんな政治家の中から、国の代表を選ぶのだからやっぱり一人一人の一票が大事になるのだと、つくづく思う。
Kozue remembered when she was taking a psychology class in her university, the professor said that the IQ of politicians might be around 70 if the standard is 100. Most of the students in that class seemed to agree with it. Politicians elsewhere wouldn't look smart either. But we have to choose a leader of the country from one of these politicians, so everyone's single vote will be very important.
