New mixer

We upgraded the mixer as a replacement of the broken one. The new mixer is from KitchenAid and was on sale. The weight of the mixer is about 20 pounds, therefore it is harder to move every time Kozue uses it. As a result, it stays on the counter top in the kitchen. To avoid dust, she made a quilt mixer cover. Now she wants to be busy with quilting again!
数カ月前に壊してしまったミキサーの代替えを少しアップグレード。今回買ったのはキッチンエイドのスタンドミキサー。バーゲンだったので思いきって購入。このミキサーの重さは約２０ポンド。棚から出し入れするには重すぎるので、台所のテーブルに置いたままになるわけで、早速キルトでカバーを作りました。また、キルト作りで忙しくなりそうです。

Museum of the Rookies

This is the Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman, MT, which is located on the campus of the University of Montana. We visited this museum shortly after moving to Billings.
ここはボーズマンにあるロッキー博物館。モンタナ州立大学のキャンパスの中にあります。この夏、引っ越して来てから直ぐに訪ねたものですが、ブログにのせずにいたものです。

The main exhibitions in this museum are dinosaurs fossils. Many dinosaurs were found in Montana state. But the most famous is the world's largest Tyrannosaurus Rex skull. This skull is bigger than that of Sue in the Chicago Field Museum. Other than dinosaurs, children and adult tourists can also enjoy the geological exhibitions and planetarium.
ここでの目玉展示はやっぱり恐竜の化石。モンタナ州では沢山の恐竜の化石が発掘されています。その中でもThe world's largest Tyrannosaurus rex skullはみものです。シカゴでみた”スーちゃん”よりも大きい頭がい骨です。
その他、この博物館ではロッキー地方の地質学等やプラネタリュウムが見学できるようになっており、大人から子供まで科学に興味のある人には見逃せない博物館です。

Birthday - 誕生日

Last Friday, 19th, was Kozue's birthday. She was happy with many nice gifts she received from Australia. Also, Gavin bought an icecream cake for her which she wanted for a long time. She was looking for an icecream cake while in the United States and finally she got one. One more thing she got was a birthday card, where he wrote her name on the envelope in Japanese hiragana but unfortunately one character "zu" was the mirror image of the correct character!
先週の金曜日１９日は私の誕生日でした。オーストラリアから沢山の楽しいプレゼントが届き感激。それと、ギャビンが私が以前から食べたいと言っていたアイスクリームケーキを買って来てくれました。小学生の頃クリスマスにたべた雪印のアイスクリームケーキが妙に懐かしく、アメリカに来てからも探していましたが、なかなか見つからず、今回やっと念願が叶ったものです。もう一つ彼らしいのが、バースデーカードに私の名前をひらがなで書いてくれたのですが、"ず”がミラーイメージです。

Rockies, ロッキー

After we had the first snow this year, we went to the Rimrocks to take a picture of the Rocky Mountains with snow. You can see the part of the Rocky Mountains behind Gavin. Also you can see snow around the peaks of the mountains. The city of Billings can be seen in front with trees. This area used to be meadows but most of the trees in the city are planted.
初雪が降り、Rimrock　から雪を頂いたロッキーの山を撮影。ギャビンの後ろに見えるのがロッキー山脈の一部。頂上あたりに白く雪が見えます。手前に見える緑の木々の辺り全体がビリングスの街です。元々この辺りは草原だったそうで、これらの樹木は殆ど植樹したものだそうです。



Montana state is called "Big Sky Country". The nickname seems to be true for the big sky with mysterious colours seen in the early morning. The moon of this day was 3%.
モンタナはBig Sky Country　と言われていますが、その名の通り早朝の空は不思議な色で染まり、こんなに大きく見えます。この日の月は３％。

ギャビンの靴 - Gavin's shoes

A few days ago, we received a parcel from Australia. Then we found Gavin's shoes in there.
先日オーストラリアから小包が届き、開けてみるとギャビンの靴が入っていました。

These shoes were worn by Gavin when he was a small child. It is hard to imagine that Gavin wore such cute little shoes from the shoes that Gavin currently wears. Anyway, it is so impressive that his parents saved those shoes for a long time. So we want to keep those shoes in a case.
彼が幼い時に履いていたものらしく、こんなに可愛い靴を履いていたなんて、今の彼の靴から想像も出来ません。それにしても長い間、良く保存してあったものだと感心しています。折角なのでどこかで、ケースを探して保存しておこうと思っています。

First snow - 初雪

Yesterday we had the first snow this year at the beginning of October. In Indiana and Ohio, they still had summer warmth. We already have the beginning of winter around the Rockies. The Beartooth Pass we visited last month has already been closed on October 3rd. It will be reopened next May. The snow around there was almost around 6 inches. We expect that the ski place at Red Lodge would be open soon.
昨日、初雪が降りました。１０月初旬に。インディアナやオハイオはまだ、真夏の気温だというのにロッキー地方はもう冬のしたくが始まっています。先月訪れたBeartooth passも１０月３日には閉鎖になり、来年の５月まで通る事はできません。あの辺りはもう６インチ程の雪が積もっているようです。もうすぐスキーもできるようになるのではないかと、期待している所です。
