Lake Erie and Marblehead lighthouse

Last weekend, we decided to visit the Lake Erie shore and Marblehead lighthouse a second time. The weather was beautiful and clear, and we could see Cedar Point amusement park from across the lake. On the way to Lake Erie, we drove by the nuclear power plant. Last year, we could see it from a distance on the islands. Now, we could see how big it is up close. Below is the cooling tower for the plant (lots of steam!).

Here are some photos of Marblehead lighthouse, situated at the end of a peninsula jutting out into Lake Erie.
This is the museum on the grounds of the lighthouse. Unfortunately it was closed when we visited, so Kozue couldn't buy the miniature lighthouse.

Here is the view from Marblehead lighthouse across to Cedar Point, well known to being home to some of the biggest and best roller coasters in the country.

We wandered around the rocks on Marblehead peninsula. From the winds and speedboats, there was a little bit of surf in the lake, and it crashed against the rocks. Here is Kozue getting splashed by an onshore wave.

We drove back a short distance to the center of Marblehead town to look at the shops. This is one of the attractions along the main street - the first water pump.

Here is the schoolhouse gallery, which has tourist souvenirs (several rooms to explore), and an icecream parlor (great for summer days). There is also an inn for vacationers. The lady in the gallery told us that the building was a school in the early days of the town, but was abandoned when the student population got too large and moved to larger quarters.

On the way back from Marblehead, we saw some signs for seafood restaurants, so we decided to explore and find a tasty lunch. We ended up at Crabby Joe's, right on the docks. There was some outdoor seating, which was very pleasant. Also we went for the special - lobster bisque with the fresh salad lunch. Very delicious, and price was very good too!

Not far from the restaurants along state route 269 is Eastern Bay State Park, which had a large swimming beach as well as shore marshes, camping, and cycle paths. We went for a pleasant walk. We were impressed by the size of the reeds, as you can see in the photo compared to Kozue.
Here is a marsh close to the main road of the park. We spotted a crane among the lotus flowers. Beautiful and graceful birds they are, and this one was quite successful in catching fish in the shallows.
